Sleep therapy
Sleep therapy is a therapy for sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing or periods of shallow breathing during sleep. During these periods insufficient oxygen is absorbed and no carbon dioxide is exhaled, causing the brain to send a signal to the body to wake up.
CPAP equipment prevents this from happening. CPAP devices splint the person's airway open during sleep by means of pressurized air. Living with apnea is simple with CPAP equipment where an air pump takes air out of the sleeping area and supplies air to the patient with a hose and mask. The airways remain open and apnea is prevented.
