A suction pump such as the DeVilbiss VacuAide QSU should be used with a patient tubing and a suction catheter. A suction catheter allows you to remove secretions such as mucus. You should place a fingertip suction stop between the patient tubing and the suction catheter, as a sort of connector piece.
